Working alongside a wonderful team at The Peninsula Chicago, we are seeking an Assistant Controller to join our Finance operations.

Key accountabilities

  • To be responsible for an efficient and effective day-to-day work routine and to ensure a proper month-end closing with timely preparation of accurate financial statement and reports.
  • To assume the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Finance during his temporary absence from the hotel.
  • Perform timely reviews of direct report employees after discussing with Director of Finance.
  • Audit the required items as identified in the Key Control checklist as updated by Head-Office to complete the list twice a year.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors to provide them with required documentations and backups.
  • Create a conducive working environment within the Accounting department.
  • Provide direction, assistance and training to the accounting staff.
  • Ensure all bank accounts and other Balance Sheet accounts are reconciled monthly. Investigate outstanding items, follow-up to clear them prior to next month-end.
  • Prepare the State and City tax returns and ensure payment is process in a timely manner to take advantage of any discounts offered, cashflow permitting based on discussion with Director of Finance.
  • Assists with yearly budget preparation.


General requirements

  • Must have at least 4 years experience in a hotel guest-focused company
  • Must have thorough knowledge in Accounting control and Financial Management process.
  • Extensive knowledge in Accounting System, Property Management System, Point of Sales, Microsoft required.
  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality, business or accounting preferred.
  • Friendly, driven, detail-oriented, and effectively communicate in spoken and written English to all internal and external guests, staff and management needed.
